Every month, more than 38,000 Nova Scotians struggle with the anguish of hunger and need to rely on the help of FEED NOVA SCOTIA and its Member Agencies province-wide. Canstruction® Nova Scotia is a community event that helps fight hunger in a way that is entertaining, fun, and a remarkable display of talent in our community. Canstruction® Nova Scotia Build Date October 21, 2009 - 8:00 a.m. The Award Ceremony November 5, 2009 the reception starts at 6:30pm at the Delta Halifax, 1990 Barrington Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia. The awards ceremony starts at 7 - 8:30pm.

Teams of architects, engineers, and students mentored by these professionals, compete to design and build structures made entirely from full cans of food. Thanks to the creative genius of their authors, fantastic CanSculptures gradually emerge from what at first looks like organized chaos. Seeming to defy gravity, the structures are completely self-supporting, with no framework or other structural supports.

Judged by a panel of community leaders and experts, winning entires go on to an international competition, where they compete with the best sculptures from across North America by digital photography.

The results are displayed to the public as magnificent CanSculpture exhibits. At the close of the exhibition, all of the canned food used in the structures is donated to FEED NOVA SCOTIA for distribution to its approximately 150 Member Agencies - including food banks, shelters, soup kitchens and school lunch programs.

In 2008, FEED NOVA SCOTIA received 16,706kg of food (36,500 cans) from Canstruction® Nova Scotia participants. Seventeen teams participated, raising approximately $32,000 to help feed hungry people throughout the province.
